RFID blocking
Most countries in the 21st century issue biometric passports. These passports have embedded RFID (radio frequency identification) chips that store biometric data, such as face ID, fingerprint recognition and iris recognition, to be read by systems used by customs and border officers at a given port of entry.
The information on the chips in biometric passports can conceivably be read by unauthorized third parties with the right equipment, so many passport wallets integrate materials to block the radio frequencies used to carry that data. Since many credit and debit cards and some ID cards also have RFID chips, this shielding can protect those chips, too.
