We know that this can be overwhelming, so we consulted with cleaning expert Ketia Daniel from BHM Cleaning Co in Birmingham for her top tips on making your post-holiday clean-up both effective and straightforward.
Strategies for Effective Post-Holiday Cleaning
Daniel emphasises the importance of organisation when it comes to cleaning up after the holidays. “Utilise your time wisely—when it’s time to take down the Christmas tree, it’s also a great opportunity for a deep clean,” she advises.
Before you start, gather all necessary supplies to streamline the process. “While your Christmas decorations are still accessible, consider purchasing containers for your ornaments and labelling them for easy identification later on,” she suggests.
Storage Solutions
When it comes to storing decorations, Daniel recommends investing in boxes specifically designed for ornaments. These often come with built-in dividers that protect your items while in storage.
Holiday inflatables require extra care. Daniel advises cleaning them before storing: “After deflating, rinse them with water and allow them to dry before packing them in a plastic container. Avoid soaps that may discolour the material,” she notes.
Preparing for Cleaning
As you tackle your post-Christmas cleaning tasks, remember that a reliable vacuum cleaner is essential for picking up pine needles and debris from carpets and hard floors. Daniel also highlights the importance of cleaning air vents.
“For vents, I recommend using a vacuum along with a Swiffer Duster. Get as far in as you can with the Duster, then use the stick handle to eliminate cobwebs,” she suggests. If you notice any discolouration, a bit of Dawn dish soap and a scrubber can work wonders to restore them.
